Aston Villa preparing '£7m bid' for Celtic's David Turnbull

Aston Villa are lining up a multi-million pound bid for Celtic and Scotland midfielder David Turnbull, according to reports.

The Hoops star, who was named in Steve Clarke's Scotland squad yesterday for next month's European Championships, is said to have attracted interest from Villa Park gaffer Dean Smith.

The Scottish Sun report that the Birmingham-based club are "lining up" a swoop for the former Motherwell man this summer, believed to be in the region of £7million, having watched the playmaker "several times" this season.

That price tag would be a sizeable profit on the £3million the Hoops paid in a transfer fee for Wishaw ace Turnbull in August last year when he moved from Motherwell.

The 21 year-old, who is uncapped for his country, could link-up with new Scotland team-mate John McGinn at Villa Park.

And Villa's interest comes hot on the heels of Turnbull picking up a hat-trick of prizes in the last week, which saw him scoop Player of the Year and Young Player of the Year in his club's awards, as well as the PFA Scotland Young Player of the Year gong.
