Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz addresses Man City return amid buy-back links

Aston Villa midfielder Douglas Luiz has opened up about speculation linking him with a return to Manchester City.

Reports in the Brazilian press this summer claimed Pep Guardiola was considering activating a buy-back clause in Luiz's contract.

Luiz was purchased by Villa last summer for £15million and it has been reported that the clause that, if triggered, would force the player back to City is worth around £25million.

With David Silva leaving Manchester City and Fernandinho ageing there were links that Luiz could return despite an up-and-down debut season in the Premier League.

However, MEN Sport has reported throughout the summer that Luiz was never on Guardiola's shopping list with strengthening central defence prioritised.

Now Luiz has given his verdict on those reports whilst away with Brazil ahead of World Cup qualifiers against Bolivia and Peru on Saturday and Wednesday respectively.

in an interview with Brazilian media outlet Globo Esporte , translated by Sport Witness , he said: "About Man City, I've been doing my job at Villa, I don't really have conversations with City or Guardiola.

"But it's a job that went together, I had help from City with Villa to be able to play in the Premier League.

"It's a very good thing to be able to play there without any difficulty.”
