Aston Villa head up a glut of clubs chasing Chelsea and Wales teen ace Ethan Ampadu

Newly promoted Aston Villa are keen to sign Chelsea and Wales starlet Ethan Ampadu.

Villa boss Dean Smith is looking for players who will boost his side's chances of staying in the Premier League next season after reaching the top flight via the Championship play-off final.

Teen Ampadu has struggled to break into the Chelsea first-team fold and according to the Guardian Villa are sounding out the Blues over his availability on loan next season.

Ampadu played for Wales six times last term and for Chelsea just five - all in cup competitions.

Despite that, Ampadu won't be short on offers with a number of Premier League and Championship clubs eyeing the situation.

However, the influence of Villa assistant John Terry might sway the day.

A move at this stage is complicated by the fact Chelsea are in the middle of appealing a two-window transfer ban, coupled with the managerial situation at Stamford Bridge.

Maurizio Sarri is edging towards the exit door, with club legend Frank Lampard in line to replace him in West London. Lampard could well give the 18-year-old more opportunities than the Italian did, but a loan which sees Ampadu given ample game-time surely has to be seen as best for all parties, including Wales boss Ryan Giggs.
