Aston Villa handed triple injury boost ahead of Leeds United clash

Aston Villa boss Steven Gerrard has been handed a huge triple boost ahead of their trip to Leeds United on Thursday night.

The 41-year-old will welcome back Ezri Konsa and Lucas Digne from their respective Covid-19 issues last week, while Carney Chukwuemeka is fit again after missing Villa's last two matches against Brighton and Southampton with a minor injury.

This is positive news for Villa as they look to record three successive victories for the first time since Gerrard's appointment back in November and a win could lift them into the top half of the Premier League table.

Marvelous Nakamba remains Villa's only long-term injury issue and Gerrard is pleased to have Konsa, Digne and Chukwuemeka back available for selection ahead of the game at Elland Road.

"We’re in a good place. We’ve got the majority of the team fit and available," Gerrard told Birmingham Live.

"There’s only Marvelous Nakamba who we’re waiting for to come back into the group.

"Carney Chukwuemeka will join the group, Ezri Konsa’s back available, Lucas Digne’s back, so I’ve got some tough decisions from now until kick-off. That’s the position I like to be in."

Calum Chambers has filled in at centre-back in Konsa's absence, while Ashley Young slotted in at left-back after Digne sat out of the game against Southampton.

After a thumping win, Gerrard will have a selection dilemma on who he decides to name in his starting XI and he added that it's important they don't get ahead of themselves.

He added: "Where we are in the table, we can’t afford to be complacent. We need to keep pushing because every game is important for us from now until the end of the season.

“It’s my job and our job to keep resetting after every game. It was important after a couple of defeats not to get too down and panic, so on the back of a couple of wins when the mood’s changed and people are smiling it’s important we don’t get too ahead of ourselves."
