Aston Villa handed major boost in race for £12m Liverpool winger also wanted by Leeds United and Rangers who flopped at Bristol City

Aston Villa have been boosted in the race for Ryan Kent.

The Liverpool winger is hot property this summer - a far cry from a year ago when he went into the summer off the back of a disappointing loan spell at Bristol City that saw the Robins fined for not playing him enough.

However, he turned his poor Robins form around with a loan spell at Rangers, which saw him praised as one of the best players in the Scottish Premiership.

Leeds United and Aston Villa have been linked with moves for him, whilst the Gers are keen to take him back on loan.

Liverpool are believed to have an asking price of £12m for Kent, which would seemingly rule Leeds and Rangers out of permanent moves for the player.

However, Gers boss Steven Gerrard had previously talked up the prospect of getting Kent back on loan - an idea that has now been shot down by BT Sport's Darrell Currie.

Currie tweeted: "As it stands Liverpool have no interest in loaning out Ryan Kent again.

"Klopp wants to see him in pre-season to assess his development. Things might change later in the window but Kent himself will have to push very hard to make this happen.

"If a sizeable bid was made and Kent himself wanted to go then Liverpool would be more inclined to sell.

"Over to the Rangers board."

It could well mean that Villa are in the strongest financial position to take Kent this summer should they want him on a permanent basis.
