Viljami Sinisalo says he is "absolutely gutted" to have been crocked in the midst of Ayr's battle to stay in the Championship.
The Finn, 19, has returned south to Aston Villa for treatment on a groin injury, leaving United without a recognised number one for their final four games.
Posting on Twitter this lunchtime, he said: "Absolutely gutted to have had to cut my loan short after an injury.
"Just wanted to say a massive thank you to everyone @AyrUnitedFC for making my loan spell enjoyable and making me feel welcomed from the moment I stepped in the building 9 months ago!
"Only got good things to say about the club on how they have treated and helped me during the season.
"It's a loan spell that I'm sure I'll remember for years to come.
"Also want to say thank you to all fans and I'm absolutely gutted not to have had the chance to see you all at Somerset!
"I wish all the players, staff and fans all the best for the rest of the season and the future."
