Aston Villa fans aim dig at Man City star Jack Grealish in new Philippe Coutinho chant

Aston Villa have poked fun at Jack Grealish after the signing of Philippe Coutinho on loan from Barcelona.

Grealish received a frosty welcome when he returned to Villa Park with Manchester City earlier this season after he departed his boyhood club in the summer.

Pep Guardiola fulfilled his ambitions of playing Champions League football and splashed out a whopping £100m on the 26-year-old.

Unfortunately, his debut season in the North West has been tarnished with inconsistency.

But his former club have enjoyed a mini-resurgence under Steven Gerrard following the sacking of Dean Smith and seemingly have a spring in their step despite three straight defeats.

With the January transfer window open, it allowed the former England captain to bolster his squad and he wasted no time in acquiring the wantaway Brazilian, Coutinho.

The ex-Liverpool star hadn't hit the heights he did at Anfield in La Liga and saw his talent used as a makeweight to allow for ex-City striker Ferran Torres to be registered.

And the 29-year-old has already been immortalised with a song, despite not kicking a ball in the claret and blue after landing back on English soil for the first time on Tuesday.

To the tune of Wake Me Up Before you Go-Go by Wham!, the song goes:

“Wake me up before you go-go, who needs Grealish when you’ve got Coutinho?”

The signing of the eye-catching playmaker was a mark of intent at Villa Park as Gerrard looks to shift the mentality in the Midlands.

It's fair to say for Grealish, his ties with the club were severed long before the new chant was formulated, his late introduction at his former home ground saw corners of the stadium chant "Villa 'till I die" when he featured.

But it didn't stop him applauding the fans after the full-time whistle.

The Blues return to action on Saturday when they face Chelsea. Guardiola's side are looking to extend the gap between themselves and the Londoners as they sit top of the Premier League table by 10 points.
