Aston Villa face Wolves and Bournemouth competition for £30m Leeds United star - reports

Leeds United face a stern challenge to retain the services of Kalvin Phillips this summer as the interest from Premier League clubs is rising.

Aston Villa, who have reportedly lodged an £11m bid for the midfielder, now face competition in the hunt for his signature as the Mirror states Wolves and Bournemouth have joined the chase.

The trio of top-flight clubs have chased 23-year-old Phillips , who was named in the EFL Team of the Season, for some time and believe he has the capability to adjust to the rigours of Premier League football.

However, persuading Leeds into a sale will prove to be difficult as Marcelo Bielsa's side have already approved the sale of Jack Clarke to Tottenham Hotspur - although he has rejoined the club on loan.

Leeds are determined not to lose another key player in the same window and have slapped a £30m price-tag upon his head, as well as opening talks over new terms.

Phillips, currently on a £10k-a-week deal that runs until 2021, has rejected the first offer from Leeds as he is keen to join the likes of Patrick Bamford and Kiko Casilla as the club's top earnewrs.

Leeds are hopeful that Phillips will not angle for a move and could even suggest they will approve a sale next year if he commits to staying at Elland Road for another season.

However, Aston Villa are prepared to offer Phillips a significant pay increase to around £60k-a-week but Leeds are under no financial pressure to sell, following the exits of Clarke and Pontus Jansson.

Villa boss Dean Smith already has an alternative if he cannot secure a deal for Phillips, as he considers a move for Brentford's Ryan Woods.
