Aston Villa consider Michy Batshuayi loan transfer after hammer Wesley injury blow

Aston Villa have been dealt a major blow with club record £22million striker Wesley set to miss the rest of the season.

Wesley was carried off with a knee injury after being clattered by Burnley defender Ben Mee in a 2-1 away win on New Year's Day.

Impending scan results are expected to confirm the Brazilian,23, signed from Club Brugge in June, has sustained cruciate ligament damage which could keep him out up to nine months.

It is a huge blow for Villa after the marksman scored his fifth Premier League goal of the season at Turf Moor to end a run of 12 top-flight games without a goal.

Villa are now likely to be forced into the transfer market for a new striker with Chelsea's Belgium international Michy Batshuayi a possible loan target.

It leaves 17th-placed Villa light upfront where Jonathan Kodjia, 30, who is out of contract in the summer, is their only fit senior striker as Keinan Davis is also still sidelined for two more weeks.

Villa are also waiting on the results of scans on goalkeeper Tom Heaton , who also came off against Burnley with a knee injury.

Villa already have key midfielder John McGinn sidelined with a fractured ankle.
