Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish raises £55,000 for NHS with shirt auction from infamous Birmingham derby

Aston Villa captain Jack Grealish has raised £55,000 for the NHS after auctioning off the shirt he wore when a Birmingham hit fan him during a game.

Blues fan Paul Mitchell was jailed for 14 weeks, serving just four, after running onto the pitch during the Second City derby and punching Grealish from behind.

Grealish went on to score the only goal of the game as Villa ended the season promoted as Birmingham avoided relegation.

The 24-year-old put up the shirt he was wearing for auction and has managed to raise £55,485 to date, with the donation page remaining open.

He said on his JustGiving page: 'I want to thank every single person that entered the raffle! Together we have managed to raise over £55,000!

'I will be be leaving the page open and you are welcome to continue to donate. Once again thank you to everyone who entered the raffle, your donations are going to help our NHS staff, volunteers and patients impacted by COVID-19.'
