- Aston Villa have appealed to the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) after FIFA blocked the registration of 17-year-old forward Brian Madjo.
- The Premier League club reportedly spent €12m (£10.2m) to sign Madjo from French side Metz in January but has been unable to field him due to FIFA's regulations on international transfers for players under 18.
- A key factor in the dispute is a FIFA exemption allowing 16 or 17-year-olds to move within the EU , which no longer applies to British clubs following the UK's departure from the European Union.
- Madjo, who turns 18 in January, last played a competitive match for Metz in December and has represented both Luxembourg and England at youth level.
- Aston Villa, preparing for the Champions League, awaits a ruling from CAS, with UEFA and Premier League squad registration deadlines approaching in early September.
