Aston Villa and Scotland star John McGinn gets snaps with fans during visit to Kilmarnock

Scotland star John McGinn spent his Saturday in Kilmarnock as he visited Rugby Park to watch his brother Stephen.

The result wasn't ideal for the Killie faithful as the Ayrshire side lost 1-0 to Partick Thistle, but the Aston Villa midfielder treated fans to pictures at the stadium.

He also spent pre-match in the Portmann Hotel, which is a hotspot for match-goers before and after games.

He travelled up after his side's 1-0 defeat away to Southampton on Friday night — which has since led to managed Dean Smith being sacked.

But Killie fans were delighted to see him in Ayrshire days before he joins up with Steve Clarke for their final Scotland camp of the World Cup 2022 qualifiers.

A buzzing fan said: "I spotted John in the Portmann and I couldn't believe it, fair play to him.

"He was more than happy to get pictures with fans and he was a genuinely great guy, so down to earth.

"I also saw him outside the Frank Beattie Stand getting snaps with supporters, it's great to see."

A post on the Portmann's Facebook said: "We had a wee visit from footballer John McGinn earlier... all of our staff were chuffed to bits with getting some photos taken. Thanks John."
