Aston Villa and Leeds United dealt setbacks in chase for £12m Liverpool star wanted by Rangers who flopped at Bristol City

Gary McAllister believes Rangers are first in the queue for Ryan Kent this summer - on one condition.

Liverpool winger Kent is a wanted man following a successful loan spell at Ibrox, which was a far cry from his form at Bristol City a year ago.

His half-season at Bristol City was so frustrating that the Robins were fined by Liverpool for not playing him enough, but he successfully reinvigorated his career at Rangers.

Now back at Liverpool, there is plenty of interest in his signature, with Leeds United and Aston Villa both linked to him, whilst the Gers are keen to take him back on loan.

The Reds have set an asking price of £12m for his permanent signature - a price that effectively rules out Rangers and Leeds.

Yet the Liverpool Echo report that McAllister feels Rangers will be first in line should the Reds opt to send him out on loan again.

The Rangers assistant boss said: "It is ongoing, but the decisions at Liverpool will probably be later down the line. Is he worth the wait? I would say so.

"He has got a rapport with the fans and there is no doubt he enjoyed his time here.

"That’s on the pitch, in and around the training ground and the city as well - he enjoyed Glasgow.

"We have to be aware that Liverpool might receive bids, but you don’t know.

"If Ryan is to go back out on loan again, I think we’d be first in line."
