Aston Martin gives DB11 AMR spice

British GT sports car gets a third version to choose from featuring 639hp of bi-turbo V12 muscle.

Wasn’t this supposed to be the new DBS Superleggera?

True, Aston Martin has earlier confirmed that it will replace today’s DB9-based Vanquish with the all-new DBS Superleggera later this year.

But before that’s going to happen, the suits at Gaydon have announced a third version of the existing DB11 featuring more performance.

Called DB11 AMR (standing for Aston Martin Racing), the GT sports car sees power of the 5.2-litre twin-turbo V12 rising by 30hp to 639hp.

Accompanying the increase in performance is sharper handling, a more tuneful exhaust note and recalibrated shift programme of the eight-speed torque-convertor automatic.

Design-wise, the DB11 AMR receives new forged wheels and parts finished in either carbonfibre or shiny black material. More suede leather and AMR badges feature in the cabin.

How much faster is it?

Aston Martin claims that the DB11 AMR will do 0-100kph in 3.7sec before running out of steam at 334kph.

The regular V12 with 609hp has records of 3.9sec and 322kph, while the lesser 510hp V8 has ratings of 4.0sec and 301kph.

Apart from having the biggest performance, the DB11 AMR is claimed to be the sportiest of the three to drive. This explains why Aston Martin has chosen to announce the DB11 AMR at the Nurburgring in Germany this weekend.

How much more will it cost?

If imported to Thai shores, the DB11 AMR would cost around 27-28 million baht. In fact, there’s a circa-2-3 million baht difference in price between all three DB11s.

Such a price strategy will leave the pending DBS Superleggera in the 30 million baht range. Alleged to have power in excess of 700hp, the Vanquish replacement will become a closer rival to the Ferrari 812 Superfast.
