Aston Martin deny reports Adrian Newey has quit as team principal

  • Aston Martin has denied reports that Adrian Newey has stepped down from his role as their Formula 1 team principal.
  • A spokesperson for Aston Martin confirmed that Newey, who joined the team from Red Bull at the start of the year, continues to lead as Team Principal and Managing Technical Partner.
  • Reports had suggested Newey would revert to a background technical role, with Jonathan Wheatley, currently with Audi, potentially taking over.
  • The Aston Martin team has endured a dreadful start to the 2026 F1 season, failing to score points in the opening two rounds due to issues with their Honda power unit and severe car vibrations.
  • Drivers Fernando Alonso and Lance Stroll have complained of potential “nerve damage” risk from the vibrations, which Newey acknowledged could prevent the car from completing full race distances.
