PATTANI: An assistant village chief was shot to death while performing a prayer inside a mosque in Thung Yang Daeng district on Saturday night, police said.
While Makata Jeta, 51, an assistant chief of Ban Talo Bongae in tambon Paku, was performing a prayer in the village mosque at about 7.30pm along with other villagers, the noise of a gunshot was heard.
The gunshot was from an unknown attacker who shot Makata in the head, killing him instantly, before fleeing.
Police were investigating.
