Assistant municipal commissioner held for demanding Rs 50k bribe in Ulhasnagar

ULHASNAGAR: The Thane Anti-Corruption Bureau has arrested assistant municipal commissioner Anil Khaturani (50) of Ulhasnagar Municipal Corporation (UMC) for demanding a bribe of Rs 50,000 in Ulhasnagar on Monday.

This is the second trap in two weeks in UMC when a senior level official has been arrested for taking bribe.

The ACB officials said that the complainant who is a developer by profession was constructing a house in Ulhasnagar. The sources said that Khaturani had demanded a bribe of Rs 50,000 from the complainant.

The ACB official said on December 2, Khaturani had taken Rs 25,000 from the complainant and the remaining amount he was demanding from him.

Frustrated with the bribe demand, the complainant approached Thane ACB. The ACB verified his complaint and after collecting evidence on Thursday arrested Khaturani from his ward office 2.

The arrest of another civic official from UMC within a period of two weeks at the end of year has brought a major embracement for the civic body.

On December 15, Yashwant Sagale, administrator of the transport department in UMC was arrested for accepting a bribe of Rs 3,000.
