Assist of the night: Chris Paul provided drinks for Jazz stuck in Thunder locker room

The Athletic’s Shams Charania, Sam Amick and Tony Jones published an in-depth article of what happened that night in Oklahoma City when Rudy Gobert was diagnosed with the coronavirus and the days leading up to it in the Utah Jazz organization.

There was one small section in the article that mentioned a Thunder point guard dishing one of his best assists of the season.

While the Jazz were quarantined in the locker room at Chesapeake Energy Arena, Chris Paul apparently sent some alcoholic beverages to help them relax a little during the stressful situation.

“One of the best things all night was Chris Paul trying to get us some refreshments, which was great,” Jazz head coach Quin Snyder told The Athletic. “That was a nice gesture.”

Details were also revealed about the Jazz’s search for a hotel in the Oklahoma City area. ESPN’s Royce Young reported that night that they were preparing to sleep at the arena, but the team eventually left.

The Athletic clarified that at least 50 emergency cots were brought to the Chesapeake Energy Arena for the team, but Utah wanted a hotel.

It wasn’t until about 1 a.m. that a Residence Inn near the airport agreed to accommodate them.

Most hotels the team had asked refused to allow them in due to fear of a potential coronavirus spread from someone who may have been in contact with Gobert or another infected individual.

The next morning, the Jazz took a chartered flight back to Utah.
