Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha, as chief of the National Council for Peace and Order, has instructed the National Anti-Corruption Commission to review its list of government officials who are required to declare all their assets, following an outcry from university councils over their inclusion.
He issued the order by virtue of the all-powerful Section 44 of the interim constitution on Tuesday, lifting the requirement under a new NACC law that directors and top executives of all public organisations and members of their immediate family declare their assets and liabilities.
The broad requirement earlier upset university councillors, who announced their intention to resign en masse to avoid the compulsion.
Gen Prayut said in his written order that the NACC's requirement caused problems in the internal administration of some organisations. He ordered the NACC to review and specify which particular positions would be subject to making asset declarations.
