Assembly complex demarcation: UT administrator approves 10 acre to Haryana

CHANDIGARH: The Chandigarh administration has agreed to conduct a fresh round of demarcation in accordance to the 60:40 ratio of share for the Haryana assembly.

Besides, UT administrator and Punjab governor Banwari Lal Purohit has agreed to Haryana aseembly speaker Gian Chand Gupta’s request for allotment of 10 acres for the new assembly premises in Chandigarh.

Notably, all this came to light during a meeting of Gupta with Purohit and a team of local UT administration here on Monday. R K Nandal, secretary of Haryana assembly, led the Haryana team while SP Singh represented the Punjab team during the officer-level dialogue at UT secretariat.

The development is said to be the outcome of Gupta’s meeting with Union home minister Amit Shah wherein he had raised the issue of a separate assembly premises as well as encroachment by officers of Punjab assembly on the space of Haryana.

“Our officers led by Nandal had taken along the documents related to division of Punjab and Haryana which were prepared during the meeting on October 17,1966. Accordingly, 30,890 square feet space was meant for Punjab and 10,910 square feet was given to Punjab Legislative council which was given to Haryana against its share of 24,630 square feet. We had produced the 90-page documentary proof to support the allegations,’’ said an official.

The engineering wing had agreed to the argument by Haryana during the meeting meeting of engineers headed by finance secretary of UT administrations, the spokesman added.
