Assault suspect still at large almost two weeks after South Tyneside manhunt

An assault suspect has evaded capture for a second week after a large manhunt was launched to find him in South Tyneside.

Police were first called to an assault at a home in Whitburn in the early hours of Wednesday, March 25.

The suspect had fled and throughout the day, a large scale police search took place around parks in Cleadon and South Shields.

The helicopter was also used to search for the man, who is in his 50s, around Cleadon Hills Nature Reserve.

However, almost two weeks on from the assault, the man has still not been found by police.

Officers had previously warned the public not to approach the man, who was last seen wearing a camouflage brown and black jacket with black jeans, brown boots and a brown hunting style hat.

A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “Anyone who believes they have seen a man matching his description should not approach him and should contact police on 999 quoting log 28 250320.”
