Assault police charge after woman allegedly coughs on Maitland cop

A WOMAN will face court in November after allegedly coughing on a Hunter police officer.

Police confirmed on Monday night that the 45-year-old was among two people charged around the state with offences related to COVID-19, with a further eight infringements also issued.

Police will allege the woman attended Maitland police station about 6.15pm on Sunday where she allegedly "became aggressive while intoxicated before coughing on an officer".

The 45-year-old was arrested and charged with failing to comply with a noticed direction regarding spitting or coughing, behaving in an offensive manner, assaulting an officer in execution of duty and two counts of intimidating a police officer in execution of their duty without actual bodily harm.

The woman received strict conditional bail to face court on November 18.

Separately, police confirmed a 45-year-old man was arrested in Byron Bay after failing to move on from an unauthorised protest.
