Assault charges against Port Adelaide AFL player Paddy Ryder dropped

Police have dropped assault charges against Port Adelaide ruckman Paddy Ryder over an incident outside an Adelaide nightclub in Hindley Street in October.

Ryder was charged with assault, as well as hindering police, after the incident involving his younger brother and cousin.

In a statement, the Port Adelaide Football Club said Ryder acknowledged a written caution from police — and the matter is now at an end.

When the charges were laid in October, the Port Adelaide club said that Ryder had expressed disappointment and regret over the incident.

The ruckman moved to Port Adelaide from Essendon at the end of the 2014 season, but did not play an AFL match last year because of bans handed down to past and present Bombers players over the club's supplements program.

Ryder has been one of the Power's star players this season, earning All Australian selection.
