Assault by Congress MLA: Victim’s kin withdraw plaint

PATHANKOT: Family members of Harsh, whom Bhoa MLA Joginder Pal had slapped, on Thursday withdrew the police complaint against the legislator. A young scheduled caste boy of Sakalgarh village, Harsh was assaulted by the MLA and his securitymen for questioning his performance. A video of the incident had gone viral on social media on Wednesday.

Harsh’s mother Sunita said she had withdrawn the complaint filed against Pal but refused to say more and gave the phone to another person who identified himself as a “family member”.

The “family member” said it was not wise to fight so the family chose for a compromise. However, he refused to divulge the conditions of compromise reached between the two.

Alleging some kind of “dealing”, AAP’s SC wing state president Lal Chand Kataruchak said, “Truth may never come out but it appears as if the victim’s family has been influenced.”

Pathankot district BJP president Vijay Sharma said, “I don’t know the circumstances under which the family withdrew their complaint but that doesn’t absolve the MLA of wrongdoing.” He said the party would continue to raise the issue at every platform during the ensuing elections.
