Ubisoft is on a high since the release of "Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced," but despite its excellent return, a new bug is plaguing the experience as it deletes hours of progress in the game.
The game studio has acknowledged the issue, and players have already started sharing workarounds while an official patch is being prepared.
'Assassin's Creed Black Flag Resynced' Bug Plagues Users
The bug surfaced shortly after launch and was first brought to wider attention by journalist Stephen Totilo on Bluesky. The issue is tied specifically to the Templar Hunt side quests scattered throughout the game world.
These quests are region-based and unlock in sequences as players progress through the main story, which is where the problem begins.
Ubisoft has confirmed it is aware of the bug based on comments left on Totilo's original post. The developer has not yet issued an official patch as of press time, but one is expected to accompany upcoming content, including the free DLC that Ubisoft has already confirmed is in development for the remake.
Hours of Progress on 'AC Black Flag Resynced' Deleted
According to ComicBook Gaming, the way the bug works is particularly painful for players who approach side content freely. When a new Templar Hunt triggers in a region, it can cause the game's quest system to revert progress to the point just before the Hunt activated.
Any exploration, upgrades, ship improvements, or discoveries made between that activation point and the present get completely wiped.
The problem becomes worse the more liberally a player engages with the open world. A player might complete one Templar Hunt in Kingston, go off to explore the seas for hours, gain new weapons, unlock regions, and build out their ship, then return to advance the main story.
When the next Templar Hunt in that region triggers, the game can roll back everything earned since the previous Hunt concluded. According to affected players, the amount of lost progress can range from a couple of hours to significantly more depending on how actively someone has been exploring between quest triggers.
The core issue appears to be how the game's side quest triggering system interacts with its save states, with Templar Hunts and other quests effectively blocking each other out in ways that corrupt the save at certain points.
How to Fix Progress Bug on 'AC Black Flag Resynced'
Until Ubisoft issues a proper patch, players have two practical options for avoiding the bug. The first is to avoid starting any Templar Hunt side quests entirely for the time being.
The second, and less extreme approach, is to always complete a Templar Hunt in full before doing anything else.
The bug appears to trigger specifically when a Hunt is left incomplete or when a new one activates after extended time away from that region.
Players who want the full experience without restrictions should hold off on engaging with Templar Hunts until Ubisoft pushes a fix. For those who are already mid-game, manually backing up save files before triggering new story beats is the safest precaution available right now.
