Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay trailer is like Hitman with parkour

Ubisoft showed off the first Assassin’s Creed Mirage gameplay trailer during the Ubisoft Forward event, and it’s a return to the stealth series’ roots. Assassin’s Creed Mirage puts a significantly stronger emphasis on stealth than the more recent AC games to the point where it’s almost like Hitman with more action.

Basim is operating in Baghdad at the height of the Abbasid rule there, during a time of unrest, as revolution festered under the city’s glamorous surface. He works for an assassin’s bureau, taking on heist, assassination, and rescue contracts around the city, and while the bureau’s role in the coming revolution remains unclear, we did see Basim undertake a quest to rescue a prominent man’s concubine.

Enkidu the helpful hawk helps Basim scout the area, as in Assassin’s Creed Origins, but only when there’s no danger of getting caught. Basim has to clear soldiers from a small city square before Enkidu can fly about unnoticed, and by clear we mean, ahem, “clear.”

He has a range of tools at his disposal to cause distractions and take down foes, including blowdarts and others he can pick up from the bureau, alongside stealth attacks, ranged weapons, and old fashioned face-to-face sword and knife fights.

Basim also has some kind of flashy new teleportation ability he can use in certain circumstances, marking enemies for attack and swiftly executing them before they can react.

Once it’s time to get away, the city is both Basim’s ultimate getaway tool and the means of his downfall. Committing crimes in plain sight alerts the public and city guards, who gladly point out where you’re hiding until you put enough distance between you and the scene of the crime. Basim can climb walls, navigate tiny tightropes, swing from poles, and pull off an impressive range of parkour abilities to make his escape.

Assassin’s Creed Mirage launches Oct. 12, 2023, for PC, PS4 and PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S.

Meanwhile, Ubisoft is hosting a big Assassin’s Creed sale on Steam until June 15, 2023, and announced new details about the upcoming Assassin’s Creed VR game.
