Assassins' Creed Hexe looks set to bring us a dark, witchy entry in the long-running stealthy series. First revealed back in 2022, among a slate of other upcoming Assassin's Creed games and projects in the works, Hexe continues to be one of the most curious and mysterious new games on the way, and there's still a lot of questions up in the air about what it'll bring us or when it will arrive.
As one of many upcoming Ubisoft games coming after the release of Assassin's Creed Shadows (which also saw the launch of the new Animus hub this year), we're still waiting to see or learn more about Hexe, but there are already some details we can glean about what promises to be "a very different" kind of Assassins' Creed game.
While we await further news on the project from Ubisoft, read on below as we break down everything we currently know so far about Assassin's Creed Hexe, from the trailer to speculation over its setting, and more.
What is Assassin's Creed Hexe?

Assassin's Creed Hexe is described by Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Cote as a "new flagship title" in the series, one which will be "a very different type of Assassin's Creed game."
That much is evident from the tone of the reveal, which opens with ominous music and dead leaves floating from rotting trees – a far cry from the bombast that has been typically associated with Assassin's Creed reveal trailers in the past. If this first look is anything to go by, Assassin's Creed Hexe could be the darkest installment to the series yet.
Assassin's Creed Hexe trailer
It may only be 30 seconds long, but the Assassin's Creed Hexe trailer has got the gears of our brains turning. It's an effective mood piece, which concludes with an Assassin's Insignia – formed from broken branches – hanging from a tree, twirling above an open flame. It's haunting imagery that leaves a lot to the imagination, so perhaps it's no surprise that Ubisoft's Marc-Alexis Cote says that he "can't wait for our fans to tear apart that trailer and find out all its secrets."
Assassin's Creed Hexe setting

While Ubisoft is yet to officially confirm the Assassin's Creed Hexe setting, an uncorroborated rumor from Bloomberg has suggested that the game will be a witchy RPG set in Central Europe during the 16th-century Holy Roman Empire. A pivotal time in history, where mass hysteria gripped the continent as 80,000 people were executed for the crime of being in league with the devil - allegedly.
Hearsay, fear, and spectral evidence were driving forces behind the devastating 16th-century witch trials, and it could make for a truly fascinating setting for an Assassin's Creed game. Unsurprisingly, longtime Assassin's Creed fans are already excited by the Witch Trials concept.
Assassin's Creed Hexe development

Assassin's Creed Hexe is being developed by Ubisoft Montreal, the "veteran team behind Assassin's Creed Valhalla." Ubisoft Montreal is the studio responsible for bringing the Assassin's Creed franchise to life in 2007, so it's no surprise that it'll be the driving force behind its future as well.
Interestingly, Clint Hocking has been brought in as creative director to lead Assassin's Creed Hexe – Hocking is responsible for leading production on some of Ubisoft's most technically ambitious games, including Far Cry 2 and Watch Dogs Legion. Ubi's Marc-Alexis Cote describes Codename Hexe as "a very different type of Assassin's Creed game", and, honestly, we wouldn't expect anything less from Hocking.
Assassin's Creed Hexe release date speculation

Currently, there is no confirmed Assassin's Creed Hexe release date. However, we suspect that we'll see the game sometime in 2026 or 2027. This is due to the fact that in January 2025, it was confirmed that Hexe will likely be the next title added to The Animus Hub since the release of Assassin's Creed: Shadows.
In a presentation attended by the GamesRadar+ team, Ubisoft producer Andrée-Anne Boisvert explained that Ubisoft "will also be integrating The Animus Hub in its constantly evolving form into all our future titles going forward. These could include, of course, upcoming flagship titles like the previously announced Assassin's Creed: Codename Hexe, upcoming multiplayer titles like Assassin's Creed: Codename Invictus, and new additions and new titles that have not been officially announced yet."
It's clear that Ubisoft wants to keep the momentum going with their new Animus launcher, given the success of Shadows. However, with GTA 6 set to release in 2026, we may see Hexe being pushed back to 2027 in order to shine. That's just speculation on our part, though, and we'll keep you updated as more news heads our way.
