Assam: Union minister Giriraj Singh for enactment of population control laws

GUWAHATI: Union minister for rural development and panchayati raj Giriraj Singh on Saturday stressed on enactment of strict population control laws to protect the “wealth and religion of Assamese people”

Singh, national patron of the Janasankhya Samadhan Foundation (JSF), has been conducting awareness campaigns across the country since 2013 to prevent population explosion. On Saturday, he held a meeting with a delegation of JSF (NE) led by Shailendra Pandey, chairman of JSF (NE), Dr Shubhjit Chowdhury, Manoj Singh, Shiv Prasad Sharma and Dr Gyanendra Barman here.

Singh told the delegation that for the security of Assam and India, a powerful and guiding dialogue about the implementation of a strict population control law in the country is the need of the hour.

He said for the protection of the wealth and religion of the Assamese people, a strict population control law was very important.

He added that wealth means land and homeland and religion means culture, worship and protection of women.

He lauded the bold steps taken by CM Himanta Biswa Sarma and the Assam government to prevent population explosion.
