Assam: TV journalist in Tinsukia kills self

DIBRUGARH: A television journalist from upper Assam’s Tinsukia town allegedly shot himself dead with his licenced pistol on Monday night, said police.

Bikash Moran (51) is survived by his wife, two daughters and a son. Police are yet to ascertain what compelled Moran to take the extreme step.

A local reporter of a Guwahati-based satellite channel, Moran was also the founder of the Electronic Media Forum. On January 1, he had taken a TV interview of Ulfa (I) chief Paresh Baruah for his news channel.

Tinsukia SP Debojit Deuri said, “We have recovered his licenced pistol from his room. Right now, we cannot confirm if it was a suicide case. The body has been sent for postmortem. As per preliminary investigation, he was alone in his room when the incident took place.”
