DIBRUGARH: Amid the declining Covid-19 graph, the Tinsukia district administration issued prohibitory orders on Friday, under Section 144 of the Criminal Procedure Code (CrPC), as an effective and precautionary measure for prevention and containment of the virus.
As per the order, gathering of five or more people in public places have been prohibited in the district. Also organising meeting, gathering in any public place without prior permission from the district administration, visiting public places without mask and taking out procession, dharna or rallies, in any form, without any permission from the competent authority have been prohibited.
The order, signed by Tinsukia additional district magistrate Monjit Borkakoti, read, "In order to take all precautionary measures to prevent Covid-19, as well as to maintain social distancing in the society as per government guidelines, it has become necessary to restrict gathering of persons as well as any kind of procession, cultural events in entire Tinsukia district. It has appeared to me that the precautionary measures for effective prevention and containment of the virus within the district is needed. The Covid-19 health protocols are in force in the district and further measures are to be taken to prevent the spread of coronavirus (Covid-19) in the district."
The order further stated that any person violating the order will be prosecuted under Section 188 of the IPC and other relevant provisions of the law. All officers-in-charge of police stations in Tinsukia have been directed to strictly enforce the order.
However, essential services such as electricity, water supply, medical, telecommunication and law and order enforcing agencies have been exempted from the purview of the order. People going to the vaccination centres have also been exempted from the order, which will remain in force till further notice.
Meanwhile, Tinsukia recorded just 9 Covid cases between October 30 to November 5. While no fatality has been registered, the district currently has only 14 active cases. A total of 24,839 cases and 361 fatalities have been recorded in the district thus far.
