Assam Police rescue five trafficked women from Kerala

GUWAHATI: Assam Police have rescued five women from a prostitution racket in Kerala and successfully brought them back to Assam on Tuesday.

The rescued women, all in the age group of 20-31 years, belong to economically weaker sections of society, police said. While two of them are residents of Nagaon district in central Assam, the rest are from Sonitpur, Morigaon and Hojai districts respectively. The accused are Dilwar Hussain from Hojai district and Ali Akbar (mastermind) and Ainad Bibi from Nagaon district.

Anand Mishra, superintendent of police, Nagaon, said the rescued women were trafficked from Assam to Kerala at different times in the last six months on the pretext of giving them profitable jobs and were later sold off to a prostitution gang.

(The victims' identity has not been revealed to protect their privacy as per Supreme court directives on cases related to sexual assault)
