GUWAHATI: A mass plantation drive was organized by the National Green Corps-Eco Club of Kendriya Vidyalaya Khanapara (KVK) on the occasion of World Nature Conservation Day.
The function was graced by Kimnei Changsan, director, Assam Science, Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC), Binod Payeng, AFS, DFO social forestry, Guwahati, Dr Jaideep Baruah, among others.
KVK has been included in the Eco Club network recently on July 19 in an online opening event, a statement said.
The plantation programme was started with an welcome address by Hibah Ihsan Muhammad, green captain of the Eco Club. In her address, she has noted that the World Nature Conservation Day recognizes that a healthy environment is the foundation for a stable and productive society and to ensure the well-being of present and future generations.
Dr Sanjay Kumar, principal of KV Khanapara, stressed on the importance of conservation of nature and the important role that the students can play as the future conservationists. Additionally, he emphasised on the rich environmental heritage of India which must be protected and conserved. He talked about using natural resources judiciously and to preserve it for the use of future generations.
Payeng, in his address as the guest of honour, congratulated the Eco Club of KVK for the initiative and exhorted the importance of nature's conservation. He asked children to undertake plantation activities and assured help from his department in all future programmes of the Eco Club.
