GUWAHATI: A man from Assam’s Nalbari has allegedly killed his wife when she refused to give him Rs 10 to buy ‘gutkha.’
The incident took place in the wee hours on Saturday at Chataimari village under Mukalmua Police Station in Nalbari. The deceased has been identified as Bakuli Haloi (38) and the accused is her husband Narayan Haloi.
“An enraged Narayan repeatedly kicked his wife in a fit of rage resulting in her death,” said a police official.
Following the incident, Narayan tried to cover up the murder and told the local residents that his wife died due to some disease. He also tried to perform her last rites but his wife’s relatives and locals demanded a post-mortem before the funeral and informed the police.
Mukalmua Police arrived immediately rushed to the spot and took Narayan along with the body to the police station.
