Assam makes COVID testing compulsory for vaccinated people

In a recent development, the Assam government has made COVID testing compulsory for vaccinated people. An official order released by the government said that the state is withdrawing its earlier order that exempted mandatory COVID testing for fully vaccinated travellers arriving via air and train.

The decision was taken after the cases of fully vaccinated people testing positive for the virus emerged in the state. The order was issued on Thursday by the Health and Family Welfare department which said that the earlier order of June 25, 2021, stands withdrawn with immediate effect.

The latest notification read, "Covid positivity is observed even in some of the person(s) who have received two doses of vaccination in a few instances".

The state has been screening each and every passenger arriving via train and flights continuously. All the airports and railway stations have teams conducting COVID tests on passengers arriving from outside in the state since the first wave of Covid-19 last year.

According to the National Health Mission, Assam has recorded 5,42,445 positive cases and 4937 deaths with an overall recovery rate of 95.32 percent.
