DIBRUGARH: Cracking down on timber smugglers, the Dibrugarh forest department on Tuesday seized a truckload of timber from Panchali ghat area of the town. Forest officials said 26 pieces of logs were seized from the spot with assistance from Dibrugarh police. The timber smugglers, who managed to escape, had brought the logs on a raft through the Brahmaputra river.
Pankaj Bora, forest ranger of Dibrugarh, said, “We got the information from the police. Immediately, our team reached the spot and seized the logs with the assistance of the police. We didn’t find anyone on the spot. We have seized one vehicle loaded with timber. A total of 26 logs were seized from the spot. All the logs were ferried through the Brahmaputra river on a raft.”
