GUWAHATI: Assam police’s criminal investigation department (CID) is probing a case against 36 teachers who have got appointment in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) area allegedly based on forged and fabricated documents.
A case was registered against teachers who got jobs by providing forged TET certificates under sections 120(B) (criminal conspiracy), 420 (cheating), 467 (forgery),468 (forgery for purpose of cheating) and 471 (fraudulently or dishonestly using as genuine any document) of IPC on Sunday.
The sleuths of the CID have detained 21 people from different districts, of whom nine were produced before a court here. Deputy inspector general of police (CID) Debaraj Upadhaya said, “These accused have obtained forged TET certificates as if they have cleared the examination and submitted them to the director of education, Kokrajhar, and got jobs in the schools of BTR.
Based on this information, a detailed inquiry was conducted to verify the genuineness of the allegations. The investigation is continuing and a special investigation team of the CID has been formed for this purpose.” Several accused have been brought to the CID headquarters from various districts of Assam for interrogation and verification of documents. “The investigation conducted so far revealed that forged TET certificates were submitted as if the accused have qualified even though they have actually failed in the test.
In some cases, fake roll numbers have been used and in others, roll numbers of successful candidates were misused by unsuccessful candidates for generating forged certificates,” said the officer. He said the candidates have “dishonestly and fraudulently” obtained appointment letters thereby causing longterm impact on the state’s education system which will adversely impact the careers of several innocent students.
Upadhaya said on finding the allegations to be true, Assam chief minister Himanta Biswa Sarma had directed CID Assam to register a case and investigate the same. Accordingly, this case was registered and special operations were launched in various districts of Assam to track down the accused. “The arrested accused are being produced before the court after a medical examination and police custody is being sought,” he said.
Assam CM Himanta Biswa Sarma said all the 36 people identified who used fake certificates to get teachers’ jobs, will be arrested.
