Assad Uzzaman: Last of the 'Portsmouth jihadis' killed in Syria whilst fighting for Isis

The last of a group of young Portsmouth men who left the UK to fight Isis in Syria has died, it has been reported.

25-year-old Assad Uzzaman’s death was reported by Shiraz Maher, a senior research fellow at the International Centre for the Study of Radicalisation (ICSR) at King’s College London, which monitors social media accounts of alleged jihadists.

No further details surrounding his death are yet known.

He was one of a group of five men who styled themselves as the Britaini Brigade Bangladeshi Bad Boys. They were seen walking through Gatwick airport in October 2013 as they left England for the Middle East.

Of the five men, four are now dead. A fifth, Mashdur Choudhury, is serving a prison sentence in the UK.

Uzzaman is thought to be the 50th Briton to die whilst fighting in Syria and Iraq.
