Aspley driver is fined for having heavily tinted windows

Learner driver Curtis Goode took a dim view when he was fined for having heavily tinted glass in a car.

He asked city magistrates: "You're fining me for the dealership's fault?"

The court heard that the problem was spotted as he drove an Audi up Alfreton Road on September 26.

He pleaded guilty to having defective windows, no insurance and breaching the terms of his provisional licence.

Peter Bettany, prosecuting, said that two windows were fitted with glass which allowed in only between 16 and 17per cent of light. The legal limit is 70 per cent.

"It is like driving at night with sunglasses on, a danger to other people," added Mr Bettany. "You could not see out properly."

Stephen Burdon, mitigating, said the Audi is owned by Goode's girlfriend and the illegal glass was in the two front side windows.

"She had acquired it from a dealership and she had not adjusted the windows. She is really angry because the dealership sold it like that," said Mr Burdon.

The garage firm had been contacted about the problem. Mr Burdon added: "They have asked about what the police have been doing. They will be liable to replace the windows."

A six-month driving ban was ordered for Goode, 38, of Amesbury Circus, Aspley.

He was fined £240 with £85 prosecution costs and a £32 government surcharge.
