ASOS mocked by shoppers for its 'ridiculous' silver face mask

ASOS isn't shy when it comes to offering up the latest in cutting-edge fashion - something which has made it a firm favourite with shoppers throughout the years.

But the online retailer's latest festival offering may just be a step too far, and nobody is quite sure what to think.

Ladies and gents, boys and girls, allow me introduce you to the chainmail face mask.

Yes, you did hear that right. ASOS is currently selling a shiny chainmail face mask, which it claims is ideal for festival and flu season.

Debuting the mask on Twitter, ASOS wrote: "Festival season/flu season/dealing with close-talkers, meet your fave new year-round piece."

Sounds pretty versatile, right? Unfortunately you can't use the £12 mask in the rain, as the instructions state that it shouldn't come into contact with liquids, so it might not be *quite* as festival appropriate as we first thought. Despite this, it does have stretch-elastic straps so you can comfortably keep it on all day, so that's a bonus.

Unsurprisingly, the mask has received something of a mixed response from shoppers, with many questioning its practicality and functionality.

Responding to the tweet, one social media user wrote: "Sack the admin."

Somebody else said: "This will categorically not prevent the transmission of influenza."

A third Twitter user pointed out: "It’s got holes in it, and besides that looks completely ridiculous."

However, the mask does have some support, with one fashionista writing: "Definitely need some for the office once the winter colds start going round!"

"Bad but I love it" exclaimed another of the mask's fans.

Earlier this week ASOS hit the headlines after one shopper criticised its sizing system.

In a scathing tweet, a critic of the e-tailer pointed out that it has been labelling some of its size 14 clothes as 'XL'.

The social media user wrote: "Dear @ASOS - since when was a size 14 'XL'??"

People quickly responded, with many pointing out their disgust.

ASOS has since responded, with a spokesperson telling Manchester Evening News:  "We offer fashion in over 30 different sizes, reflecting the needs of our diverse, global customer base and our ongoing commitment to promoting a healthy, positive body image.

"Based on the measurements of some of our third party brands, the size XL on this product is equivalent in our sizing chart to a UK 14.”
