Asmir Begovic 'frustrated' with life at Bournemouth amid Nottingham Forest's reported interest

Goalkeeper Asmir Begovic admits his season at Bournemouth has been one of frustration, as speculation surrounding his future grows.

The Bosnian international is reportedly a target for Nottingham Forest with a move away from the Vitality Stadium looking increasingly likely this summer.

Having played 42 times for Eddie Howe’s Cherries last season, the 31-year-old has made just 24 this term, falling behind Mark Travers and 39-year-old Artur Boruc in the pecking order.

He was also told by Howe that he could end his season early with two games of the Premier League campaign remaining, to spend time with his family.

“I haven’t played as much as I would like and it’s been frustrating,” said the former Potters and Portsmouth number one, speaking at the Asmir Begovic Foundation Golf Classic.

“For the club, we can’t forget it was a collective effort to stay in the league and a fifth consecutive season in the Premier League is a huge achievement.

“In terms of my own future, it’s something Bournemouth and I will discuss in the next few days.”

Begovic is believed to be valued at around £7m, and understood to earn in the region of £70,000 per week on the south coast, and with two years still to run on his current deal, a move to the Championship would appear unlikely, despite rumours in the Greek media suggesting that Forest have shown an interest.

Olympiacos and Galatasaray are also said to be interested in signing the experienced stopper, and he hasn’t ruled out leaving England in search of regular football.

“I’ve been in England for 16 years and around the Premier League a long time - would I rule out a move abroad in any way?

Nottingham Forest quash reports linking them with Portuguese coach Ivo Vieira

“No, I wouldn’t, of course not.

“That’s something I can potentially see myself doing in the future.

“I’m not saying it’s right now an option but I wouldn’t rule it out going forward.”

Forest's current number one, Costel Pantilimon, enjoyed a largely fine season at the City Ground, keeping 15 clean sheets, the fourth best in the Championship.

The Reds have since released Stephen Henderson and Under-23 man Liam Bossin, with Jordan Smith returning to the club after his loan spell at Mansfield Town.
