Is the asking price dropping for Bears quarterback Justin Fields?

Before there was Russell Wilson, there was Justin Fields. The Pittsburgh Steelers have been linked to a potential trade for Fields, the current Chicago Bears starting quarterback, since the end of the season, but it feels like Pittsburgh is instead all in on signing Wilson, the former Denver Broncos quarterback.

We cautioned that the Steelers should be patient with the quarterback position, and now it might be the time to do it. With each passing day, the asking price for Fields likely drops with the approach of free agency. Monday, March 11 is the start of the legal tampering period, when teams can start talking to free agents, and all those quarterback-needy teams could look elsewhere and let Fields sit.

If the Steelers decided they did want Fields, they probably wouldn’t even need to give up a second-round pick in the 2024 NFL draft to make it happen.

Depending on where you stand on the quarterback debate, the Steelers could be making a big mistake if they sign Wilson and pass up what could be a huge bargain in Fields.
