Ask the experts: Turning your seasonal job into CV gold

'Tis the season for festive jobs — and if all you want for Christmas is a new career, taking on part-time work over the holidays can score you a lot more than extra cash.

Manning checkouts on Christmas Eve or pulling pints during the Christmas break can boost your CV with skills graduate employers want to see, according to a Guardian Money article.

And once the tinsel comes down workers could find their seasonal roles turn into bigger and better things — many temporary vacancies could become permanent positions in the new year — or even lead to a place on a graduate scheme.

According to Retail Gazette, 23% of this year's Marks & Spencer retail graduate intake started as seasonal recruits at the business last year.

So, if you'd like to know more about the roles on offer— and where they might lead — plus how to make the most of seasonal experience on your CV, join our panel of experts in a live Q&A.

Our panel:

Scott Davidson is the marketing manager for MyJobGroup.co.uk — a UK network of regional job sites. Having been in the post for for more than five years, Scott has a wealth of experience in online recruitment.

Richard Small is head of human resources at T.M.Lewin. Richard has spent all of his HR career working for high street retailers — he has worked at T.M. Lewin for just under four years.

Jim Duncombe is recruitment manager for Natives, which offers seasonal work opportunities such as ski jobs and summer work. Jim worked five winter seasons prior to this role.

Jackie Hallums is Sainsbury's head of resourcing. Sainsbury's is recruiting more than 14,000 seasonal colleagues this year.

Carole Donaldson is a resourcing manager at John Lewis. She has been with the John Lewis Partnership since 1993.

Diane Ward is Costa's talent planning and resource manager. Diane has been with Costa for two years — she is responsible for making sure the company attracts and recruits the best people across the business.

Adam Lewis in one of the founders of Innovate CV, the online CV platform. Adam regularly writes columns for magazines and blogs, and tweets, on many issues related to career advice and putting together a polished CV.

Sophie Milliken is a recruitment manager at John Lewis. Sophie has been with John Lewis for almost ten years, and in her current role for two years.

We'll also be joined by three representatives of Argos. Sarn Hayer is resourcing adviser, Val Garside is HR business partner and Liz Langham is learning & development administrator.
