Asics Greater Manchester Marathon 2019 route and start time

The Greater Manchester Marathon 2019 is a matter of days away and will see thousands of ambitious runners take to the streets of Stretford, Sale and Altrincham.

The 26.2 mile challenge will be taken on by approximately 20,000 people of all different sporting abilities when the event returns on Sunday, April 7.

Sponsored by Asics, the run has three official charity partners - Cancer Research UK, Alzheimers and JustGiving - but of course runners have been encouraged to take on the route for charities of their own personal choice.

The race also has local charity partners in The Christie and The Royal Manchester Children's Hospital .

If the full-route isn't for you, you can still experience the Manchester spirit by taking part in the Mancunian Mile which starts at 8am before the main event.

Here's everything you need to know if you're running - or just watching - this Sunday.

Greater Manchester marathon route

The Manchester Marathon starts on Chester Road - near the White City roundabout.

The runners will then head up Chester Road before looping and heading towards Sale.

They'll then take a left at Chapel Road with the route taking them along Marsland Road and Brooklands Road.

Runners will then go through Timperley, down Stockport Road and Woodlands Road into Altrincham before going back on themselves and heading down Park Road and Washway Road.

They'll then head to Sale West and Ashton Upon Mersey, onto Carrington Lane as they hit the 20 mile mark.

They then pick up Flixton Road at 21 miles, then Church Road a mile later as they head into Urmston and the final straight.

The runners will pass under the M60 and onto Stretford Road for the final couple of miles, before ending up back on Chester Road and the finish line on Talbot Road, at the Emirates.

The Greater Manchester marathon will start at 9am following the ASICS warm up.

The start area will open at 8am giving you time to get prepped before your challenge begins.

How to get there

The nearest Metrolink tram stops are Pomona, Exchange Quay and Trafford Bar (Zone 2) which are less than a 10 minute walk.

The nearest stop to the finish line and event village is Old Trafford (Zone 2).

There isn't an offiial event car park and pay on the day parking will not be available at Manchester United Football Stadium.

Some pre-paid car parking is available at the MUFC car parks and but that needs to be booked on the Manchester United website in advance.
