Asian-inspired restaurant to open on Gloucester Road

It looks like an Asian-inspired restaurant will be opening at the former Burger Bear site in Gloucester Road - just months after the popular burger joint closed for good.

StrEAT Wok Bristol has been granted planning permission by Bristol City Council to transform the site into a restaurant serving Asian food for diners to eat in or take away.

The new occupiers are a Bristol owned and operated company who have established a business serving Asian food at festivals and events in Europe.

It is currently unknown when the new restaurant will open.

The planning permission - which was granted this month, approved some minor works inside the building - which is located on the corner of Denmark Place.

As a result the new restaurant is unlikely to open for a few months at least while the work is undertaken.

Burger Bear opened in July 2018 and the glowing reviews started pouring in, with Bristol Live's food critic Mark Taylor awarding it four stars.

The brand started out as a pop-up street food in various London pubs and markets, as well as a restaurant in Stoke Newington, but founder Tom Reaney is originally from Bristol.

The positive reviews kept on coming with many praising the range and quality of burgers on offer, but a status was posted on the restaurant's Facebook page on May 22 this year stating it had closed for refurbishment - after it had only been open for 10 months.

An update was posted on the status by the restaurant informing people it would reopen in the '2nd week of July'.

But the popular burger joint never reopened leaving an empty space in what is a popular eating and drinking spot on Gloucester Road.
