Asian Games: Balranj Panwar reaches men's singles sculls final in rowing

NEW DELHI: India's rowing campaign at the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou, China received a boost as Balraj Panwar, competing in the men's singles sculls, advanced to the final A in his category. Balraj finished third in the semifinal A/B2 of his category with a time of 7:22:22.

Rowing events at the Asian Games 2023 are taking place from September 20 to 25 at the Fuyang Water Sports Centre in Hangzhou.

The Indian Men’s Lightweight Double Sculls duo of Arjun Lal Jat (bow) and Arvind Singh (stroke) secured a place in the Final A with a time of 6:55.78, topping Repechage 1 on Thursday. Arjun and Arvind displayed their determination by securing the first position in the Lightweight Men's Double Sculls event in Rowing.

In Lightweight Men's Double Sculls, Arjun and Arvind topped the repechage race and advanced to the Final A, which is scheduled for Sunday.

Additionally, India also secured another Final A spot in the Double Skulls category with the duo of Satnam Singh (bow) and Parminder Singh, who topped the leaderboard. The Indian pair clocked 6.48.06 to qualify for the final.

India has a history of success in rowing at the Asian Games, with a total of 23 medals, including two gold, five silver, and 16 bronze medals.

The Asian Games officially begin on September 23 and will continue until October 8.
