A report on the Asian newspaper industry predicts that it will grow speedily over the next five to 10 years. According to the report by Ifra, the world's leading association for newspaper and media publishing, advertising expenditure is expected to go on rising in line with the growth in GDP, and that growth is phenomenal given that 250m people are expected to belong to the middle class within the next 20 years. Manfred Werfel, Ifra's research director, says: "In general we consider the worldwide newspaper market as being currently divided into a stagnating market (in the west) and a fast growing market in Asia."
