Asia Cup 2023: Litton Das returns to boost Bangladesh ahead of 'Super 4' stage

NEW DELHI: Bangladesh have received a significant boost with the return of their premier wicketkeeper-batter Litton Das just in time for the Asia Cup 'Super 4' stage.

Das rejoined the squad after initially being ruled out of the tournament due to illness. His medical clearance was granted on Tuesday, allowing him to rejoin the team for the crucial phase of the tournament.

Bangladesh secured their place in the 'Super 4' with a convincing 89-run victory over Afghanistan in their final group match held in Lahore on Sunday. Despite their successful progression, Bangladesh have faced several injury concerns within the team.

During his remarkable century against Afghanistan, Najmul Hossain Shanto was seen grappling with hamstring issues on multiple occasions. Additionally, Mehidy Hasan Miraz, who scored a century as well, suffered finger cramps during his innings and was forced to retire hurt. In the match against Sri Lanka on August 31, Mustafizur Rahman sustained a niggle that prevented him from participating in the game against Afghanistan.

Bangladesh's chief selector, Minhajul Abedin, expressed the team's need for additional players going into the 'Super 4' stage due to these injury concerns.

Following Das's medical clearance, the decision was made to send him to Pakistan to bolster the squad for this critical stage of the Asia Cup.
