DUBAI: Former India captain and batting icon Virat Kohli on Wednesday became the batter with the highest average in T20I cricket.
Kohli accomplished this feat during India's group game against Hong Kong in Dubai at the ongoing Asia Cup.
On his way to an unbeaten 59 off 44 balls, Kohli showed glimpses of his old self. His knock included one four and three sixes.
In 101 T20I matches, Virat now has scored 3,402 runs at an average of 50.77 and strike rate of 137.12. He has 31 half-centuries in the format, with the best individual score of 94 not out.
Kohli has, thus, overtaken Pakistani batter Mohammed Rizwan, who has an average of 50.14 in 57 matches. They are followed by Devon Conway of New Zealand (average of 47.20 in 23 matches), Pakistan captain Babar Azam (average of 44.93 in 75 matches) and India's Manish Pandey (average of 44.31 in 39 matches).
India posted 192/2 in their 20 overs against Hong Kong on Wednesday and went on to win by 40 runs.
Besides Kohli's half-century, Man-of-the-Match Suryakumar Yadav exploded towards the end of the Indian innings, smashing a brilliant 68 not out off just 26 balls with six fours and six sixes.
