Ashton Pound: Man to appear before court in relation to animal cruelty probe

A man is set to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice in relation to investigations into Ashton Dog Pound.

The man, aged in his 60s, was arrested on Tuesday morning as part of the probe.

He has been charged with a number of offences relating to the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013.

He is due to appear before the court at 10.30am this morning.

A garda spokeswoman said: "A man in his 60s was arrested on the morning of Tuesday, 14th September, 2021, in connection with an ongoing investigation by Gardaí into an Animal Welfare incident in Ashtown, Dublin.

"The man has since been charged with a number of offences relating to the Animal Health and Welfare Act, 2013, and is expected to appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Court 4, at 10:30am this morning, Friday 17th September, 2021."

In July 2020, the pound was searched by a team of gardai who seized bottles of pentobarbital sodium, a controlled drug used by vets to euthanise animals.

Computers and documents were also taken from the facility, and officers removed five dead dogs for autopsy, including a Bichon Frise and a Japanese Akita.
