Ashton Gate releases thousands more tickets for sold-out Spice Girls and Take That gigs

Thousands more tickets for the Spice Girls and Take That gigs in Bristol have gone on sale.

The iconic 90s girl and boy pop bands are booked to play one show each at Ashton Gate Stadium this summer.

Fans of the Spice Girls had their hopes dashed after tickets to the Bristol concert quickly sold out.

But then Bristol City Council gave Ashton Gate permission to admit 4,000 more concert-goers at each of the five big gigs it is allowed to host in summer.

That brought hope that the promoters of the Spice Girls’ UK tour would release more tickets to their one and only concert in Bristol.

Now Ashton Gate’s events manager, Katie Griffin, has confirmed “thousands more” tickets for the Spice Girls and Take That have been released for sale on Ticketmaster.

Ms Griffin said she could not say exactly how many more had been released but “the aim is to reach 32,000 capacity in line with the increased licence announced in February".

“We also have further hospitality tickets on offer starting from £169 per person,” she added.

Ms Griffin said Ashton Gate has also published travel information for concert-goers on its website.

Its travel page includes information about road closures, disabled parking, special event park and ride services, organised national coaches, public buses, train services, and shuttle buses.

Special shuttle buses will run from Bristol Temple Meads and Parkway railway stations, the park and rides at Portway and Brislington, and The Mall at Cribbs Causeway. Free parking is available all five sites except Bristol Temple Meads.

There will be no parking facilities near Ashton Gate so concert-goers are advised to walk or use public transport.

Residents already experience parking issues during sports matches, so are naturally worried about what will happen when tens of thousands of music fans descend on the home of Bristol City Football Club.

Ashton Gate Limited was granted a licence last October to host five “large scale concerts” in the stadium bowl per year. That license was for a maximum capacity of 28,000 gig-goers and up to 2,000 staff.

Some 32,000 ticket holders and up to 2,000 staff are now permitted under the licence extension granted by Bristol City Council’s licensing committee on February 21.

The stadium has confirmed the following four big concerts this summer: Rod Stewart on May 27, Take That on May 28, Muse on June 5, and the Spice Girls on June 10.
